The Chennai police have arrested three persons on charges of trespassing into a house in MKB Nagar and attempting to murder a couple and their two sons.
According to the police, Surya, 20, a resident of S.A. Colony in Vyasarpadi who works at a photo shop, was at home on Thursday (December 25, 2025) evening when six persons, armed with knives, barged in and threatened to kill his elder brother Manikandan. As Surya’s parents intervened, Surya locked the room where Manikandan was sleeping from the outside.
The six persons then attacked Surya with knives. When his mother, Shanthi, tried to stop them, she was also stabbed, while his father, Palani, was beaten up. As people gathered outside, the assailants fled, issuing death threats.
Surya and his mother Shanthi, who sustained bleeding injuries in the attack, were admitted to Government Stanley Hospital. Based on Surya’s complaint, a case was registered at the MKB Nagar police station under sections including attempt to murder and provisions of the Arms Act, and an investigation was taken up.
During the investigation, the police arrested three suspects identified as Nandakumar, 21, and Samuel, 21, both of Kodungaiyur, and Ashok, 20, of Gandhi Nagar, Vyasarpadi. Three knives used in the crime and a two-wheeler were seized from them.
Police investigation revealed that Manikandan had allegedly assaulted Karan, a friend of one of the accused, Nandakumar, a few days ago. In retaliation, Nandakumar and his friends allegedly went to Manikandan’s house and attempted to murder him, the police said. It was also found that Nandakumar and Ashok were involved in one previous criminal case each.
After interrogation, all three arrested accused were remanded to judicial custody as per court orders. The police are continuing efforts to trace and arrest the absconding accused involved in the case.
