A group of farmers observed a fast at Periyakudi near Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district on Tuesday demanding removal of vehicles carrying equipment used by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation for drilling wells in delta districts.
The demonstrators, led by Tamizhaga Cauvery Farmers Association general secretary P. R. Pandian, alleged that clandestine attempts were being made to revive hydrocarbon extraction activity at the closed well at Periyakudi. The farmers demanded the shifting of oil exploration equipment carrying vehicles out of delta districts.
The association demanded legal action against those involved in the designing and pasting of wall posters ‘belittling’ the association secretary for spearheading the protest against ONGC’s exploration activities in delta districts.
