File replies in PIL plea over ELF radar station at Damagundam: HC to State, Centre

The Telangana High Court, on Wednesday, directed the State and Central governments to file their replies by November 13, on a PIL petition seeking cancellation of the proposed ELF Radar project in Ramagundam reserve forest area of Vikarabad district.

A Bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin, hearing the plea filed in 2020 by Ramagundam Forest Protection Joint Action Committee, a registered society, recorded the statement presented by amicus curiae Vivek Jain.

The amicus curiae informed the Bench that certain issues raised in the PIL plea were not fully addressed in the counter affidavit filed by the Union government. He stated that the government did not take steps to plug the loopholes of potential radiation impact of the proposed project.

He pointed out that the courts earlier restricted installation of cellphone towers in the vicinity of schools and hospitals. The endeavour of the Union government to check potential harm to the flora, fauna and the environment due to the proposed project was inadequate, he said. The matter was adjourned to November 13 for next hearing.
