First level checking of EVMs, VVPATs begin in Virudhunagar

The first level checking of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and VVPATs to be used for the ensuing Assembly election began at Virudhunagar Collectorate on Thursday.

Engineers from Bharat Electronics Limited began the checking in the presence of Virudhunagar District Election Officer and Collector N.O. Sukhaputra, and representatives of recognised political parties.

The EVMs, including ballot units and control units and VVPATs were brought out from the EVM warehouse located in the second floor of old Collectorate building.

Six engineers would take up the checking of functioning of the ballot units, control units and VVPATs. Over 2,500 units of each machine would be taken up under the exercise.

The work is likely to be completed within 25 days.

Representatives of recognised parties or their nominated agents can inspect the work between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
