Heavy overnight rain rendered hundreds of people homeless in Hyderabad as the Musi River marooned low lying areas on Friday (September 26, 2025) night. “The rain water entered our homes at 9 p.m. and we are waiting outside of our home without sleep for the water to recede,” said Mohammed Khalid whose house in Moosanagar was flooded.

“This year, there was no announcement like it used to happen earlier. Clothes, rations, refrigerator, beds have been soaked. We are used to floods but announcements would have helped,” said Shaheen who said she was waiting outside her flooded home.

“It was a sudden flood. There were no announcements,” agreed a HYDRAA officer working on the spot. Electrical supply has been cut off in the area as a safety measure.

It was a replay of the September 28, 1908 flood in Hyderabad to a lesser extent as rain Vikarabad filled up the Himayatsagar reservoir leading to release of floodwaters that swamped the Chaderghat area.
