A special team of police from Rajapalayam South police station arrested four persons, including a couple, under charges of selling fake gold coins to a person.
Following a complaint from Ramar of Karivalamvanthanallur in Tenkasi, the police registered a case.
It is said that when Ramar had been to a relative’s function in Rajapalayam, a week ago, he was approached by a 60-year-old man, who claimed to have gold coins in different weights beginning from one gram.
After showing a genuine one gram coin, the suspect had sold at least gold coins valued ₹5 lakh. After a few days, when Ramar had checked the genuineness, he was shocked to know that they were fake. Hence, he lodged the complaint.
Based on the description and the mobile phone tower location, a special team led by Inspector Rajesh and SI Sakti Kumar and others rushed to Chennai. After camping, they ascertained that the suspects were in a location identified as Pudupakkam in Kancheepuram district.
On reaching the spot, they arrested Saktivelu, 67, Pandurangan, 60, his wife Arasayee, 55, and Shanmugam, 61. The team seized 11 numbers of gold coin, a large number of fake coins and ₹2 lakh in cash from the gang.
They were brought to Rajapalayam south police station for further interrogation. DSP Baseena Beevi appealed to the gullible people to beware of such gangs, which deceived public through fake means. The public can inform the police control room for swift action.
