
Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru hands over welfare measures to a beneficiary at a function held in Tirunelveli district on Wednesday.

Minister for Municipal Administration K. N. Nehru handed over free house site pattas to 1,804 beneficiaries and disbursed welfare measures to the needy at two places in the district on Wednesday.
In a function held at Veeravanallur, Mr. Nehru handed over 1,174 free house site pattas, a power handsprayer, milk quality testing equipment to Aavin milk suppliers, loans to self-help groups, 50 ration cards and seven farmers’ identity cards.
He also handed over inflatable boat, life jackets, solar-powered lamps, walkie-talkie, power hacksaw etc. to the fire and rescue services department ahead of the northeast monsoon. District Fire Officer Bhanupriya received the equipment.
At Maanur, the Minister disbursed free house site pattas to 630 beneficiaries, loans to SHGs etc.
Mr. Nehru claimed that the present government had given drinking water to over 2 crore people in the past four years and steps have been taken to fulfil this basic necessity for 1 crore more population by implementing 19 combined drinking water schemes across Tamil Nadu.
He also informed that project estimate on an outlay of ₹990 crore had been drawn for giving drinking water from the Tamirabharani River to 530 villages in Sankarankovil, Thevarkulam, Kuruvikulam, Melaneelithanallur and Tenkasi areas.
He said the Tirunelveli District Rural Development Agency’s proposal for constructing free houses to 1,300 beneficiary families during the current fiscal had been approved and hence the eligible beneficiaries would be identified shortly for constructing these houses.
District Collector R. Sukumar, District Revenue Officer M. Suganya, Sub-Collector, Cheranmahadevi Ayush Gupta, Tirunelveli Mayor G. Ramakrishnan, MLAs M. Abdul Wahab of Palayamkottai and E. Raja of Sankarankovil and Deputy Mayor K.R. Raju were present.
