The Kerala High Court has directed the State government to take steps to ensure continuous supply of drinking water to residents of West Kochi, including to those living in 30 wards of the Kochi Corporation and residents of Chellanam and Kumbalangi panchayats.
The court issued the order on a petition by Thampi Subramaniyan of Kochi, seeking steps to ensure steady supply of water to West Kochi residents and to install flow meters at all water supply points to prevent diversion and to ensure proper management of water supply.
The court further directed the Chief Engineer, Kerala Water Authority, to file an affidavit within two weeks on the steps taken to ensure drinking water supply in the region.
