The Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (APMRC) decided to allow Joint Ventures (JVs) made of maximum companies to participate in the bidding for Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects.
APMRC Managing Director N.P. Ramakrishna Reddy stated in a press release that the permission accorded to JVs was intended to have wider participation of eligible bidders and it has been targeted to complete the projects in 36 months through competent firms having proven record of completing large projects.

He said International Competitive Bidding (ICB) tenders were called for civil works of Visakhapatnam metro Phase-I (46.23 km) and Vijayawada metro Phase-I (38 km) in the last week of July-2025.
During a recent pre-bid meeting, 13 companies took part and requested that the projects be split into two or more packages each and JVs be allowed to bid for them.

However, given the likelihood of multiple packages causing inordinate delays and cost escalations, the APMRC turned down the above request but conceded the plea to enable JVs to vie for the projects, as per the Government of India/Central Vigilance Commission’s procurement guidelines.
The last date for submission of tenders for the Visakhapatnam project is October 10 and for the Vijayawada project, the deadline is October 14.
