For filmmaker Gurinder Chadha, Christmas is more than a season it’s a feeling tied to nostalgia, family, and long-standing traditions. As she prepares for the release of her latest film, Christmas Karma, on 12th December, presented by PVRINOX Pictures, the filmmaker reflects on how her celebrations always begin with a cherished family ritual.

She said, “For me Christmas begins with my annual family tradition, where I take my children to watch. It’s A Wonderful Life at the Prince Charles Cinema in London. Every year I cry buckets at the end while being moved by its life affirming message. That love for classic holiday storytelling inspired Christmas Karma. My ode to Dickens and Capra with a contemporary twist”
Christmas Karma carries forward the familiar themes of compassion and redemption, blending Gurinder Chadha’s trademark warmth and gentle humour in a multicultural, musical backdrop. The film reflects on what Christmas represents in today’s divided world and how simple acts of kindness, empathy, and hope can still bring people together.
Infused with Sikh philosophy, Chadha added, “‘Living is Giving’ is part of the teachings of Guru Nanak and Sikhism. Being a Sikh, the core message of ‘Ek On Khar’ (We are all one) resonates heavily for me in the making of my film.”
Christmas Karma is a light, feel-good musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The film features Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory) as Mr. Sood, a modern-day Scrooge who is guided through a reflective and transformative journey by the three Ghosts of Christmas, played by Eva Longoria, Billy Porter and Boy George. Along the way, he confronts his past and learns that kindness lies at the heart of the festive season. The cast also includes Leo Suter, Pixie Lott, Charithra Chandran, Danny Dyer and Hugh Bonneville.
