A heavy downpour on Sunday (September 21, 2025) night caused flooding in a few parts of the city, with rainwater mixed with sewage water entering nearly 50 houses on Kattabomman Street in Kollampalayam.
The city has been receiving continuous rainfall for the past four days, leading to widespread water stagnation and overflowing sewage channels. In Kollampalayam, the sewage channel spilled over, inundating houses and forcing residents to move their belongings to higher ground. Revenue officials relocated the affected families to a nearby school and provided them with food. They returned home only after water receded early on Monday (September 22).
At Erode railway station, passengers faced severe inconvenience as rainwater entered the premises. The pathways to platforms and areas outside ticket counters were submerged, forcing passengers to wade through stagnant water. Conservancy workers later cleared the premises. Waterlogging was also reported at the railway underpass in K.K. Nagar, Vendipalayam, and Kollampalayam.
This is the second time in four days that sewage water has entered houses in Kollampalayam. Residents expressed frustration over the civic body’s poor preparedness to handle the monsoon.

“This is a vulnerable area where flooding occurs every rainy season. Bushes and trees in the sewage channel block the flow of water, causing it to enter our houses,” a resident said, urging authorities to remove the growth and desilt the channel regularly. Another resident added that a sharp bend in the channel worsens the flooding. “Either it is flash floods or sewage water, the civic body should have taken all precautionary measures.” Residents demanded swift action to prevent repeated flooding, pointing out that unchecked growth along the sewage channel continues to put homes at risk during heavy rains.
On Monday, Collector S. Kandasamy along with Corporation Commissioner Arpit Jain inspected the area and held discussions with officials.
