Hospital launches minimally invasive procedure

Dr. G. Viswanathan Hospital launched minimally invasive targeted treatment known as endoluminal radio frequency ablation (RFA) in gastroenterology and pulmonology, in addition to conventional RFA (radiology and head and neck surgery) on Monday.

At a press gathering on Monday, K. Govindaraj, hospital chairman, said: “RFA is the best alternative to surgery for patients with conditions like thyroid nodule, primary liver cancers, monastic tumours and lung tumours.” Ablation refers to the destruction, removal or detachment of tissue through medical, physical or chemical means.
