The Vadapalani police have arrested the son of a houseowner for allegedly breaking into his tenant’s house through a window and stealing gold jewellery and cash.
According to the police, Ramesh, 41, who lives with his family on the second floor of a rented house on Periyar Pathai, Choolaimedu, had gone to his hometown on September 30, after locking the house. When he returned on the night of October 7, he found the window open. On checking the cupboard, he discovered that a pair of gold bangles and earrings and ₹1,500 in cash were missing.
Ramesh lodged a complaint with the Vadapalani Police Crime Wing, seeking to recover his stolen jewellery and money. Upon examining CCTV footage from nearby cameras, the police found that the houseowner’s son, Arunkumar, had entered Ramesh’s house through the window on the night of October 5 and stolen the jewellery and cash kept in the cupboard.
The police arrested Arunkumar, 28, and recovered 10 grams of gold ornaments and ₹1,500.
