The heavy rain and forecast for more showers led authorities to operate the gates of Hyderabad’s twin reservoirs — Himayatsagar and Osman Sagar on Friday (September 26, 2025) early afternoon. Subsequent to this, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has evacuated 55 residents from flood-prone localities under Chaderghat Bridge.
While the full tank level (FTL) of Osman Sagar is 1790.00 feet(3.900 TMC), the current water level was 1789.50 feet (3.785 TMC). The outflow was 6,370 Cusecs by lifting 10 gates to a height of 6 feet. The water level in the Himayatsagar was 1763.00 feet (2.781 TMC) against FTL of 1763.50 feet(2.970 TMC). Four gates were lifted to let out 4,069 Cusecs. The combined outflow was over 10,400 Cusecs, according to the data shared by Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).
The evacuated residents, including families and daily wage earners, have been relocated to a GHMC Community Hall, where they are being provided with temporary shelter, food, and medical support. The Corporation’s Commissioner R.V. Karnan is monitoring the situation and has directed all officials to remain on high alert, ensuring timely action to avoid any untoward incidents, as per a press note.
