Hyderabad’s Sikh community is preparing to host the 350th Shaheedi Shatabdi Nagar Kirtan Yatra (procession), dedicated to the martyrdom anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru, Tegh Bahadur, on September 25.
The procession, which began last month from Gurdwara Dhubri Sahib in Assam, is travelling across 23 States and will conclude at Anandpur Sahib, Punjab, on November 23. The procession aims to spread awareness of the Guru’s supreme sacrifice and timeless teachings.
In Hyderabad, the Central Committee of Gurudwara Saheban (CCGS)-Telangana, has made elaborate arrangements for the welcome. The sacred palanquin carrying Guru Granth Sahib (holy scripture of Sikhs), will be received at Ghatkesar at 4 p.m.
Later, at 7.30 p.m., a grand Nagar Kirtan (procession) featuring Chowki Sahebans of all local gurdwaras will set out from Kishenbagh X Road, passing through Puratan Gurudwara Saheb Asha Singh Bagh Saheeda Singh Asthan before halting at Gurudwara Saheb Baram Bala in Sikh Chawni.
CCGS chairman S. Gurucharan Singh urged people from all communities to join the procession. “Guru Saheb’s supreme sacrifice teaches us that defending faith and humanity is the highest duty. This Nagar Kirtan is not limited to Sikhs; it is for all. When people of every faith come together, the message of brotherhood spreads far and wide,” he said.
The procession will halt overnight at Gurudwara Saheb Baram Bala, where kirtan, langar and religious gatherings are planned, with groups of devotional singers and priest narrators expected to draw thousands of devotees. The yatra will resume the following morning, continuing its journey towards Vijayawada in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
