Main Vaapas Aaunga is the title of acclaimed director Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming film with actor-musician Diljit Dosanjh. The film, set to release in theatres on June 12, 2026, marks a consecutive collaboration between the actor and the director after Amar Singh Chamkila.
The title was announced on Friday (March 13) with a teaser. In the promo video, Diljit’s narrator speaks of a romance that has haunted an elderly man (played by Naseeruddin Shah) for over 78 years. “A story from a dream world,” he says as we begin to see glimpses of a love story between Vedang and Sharvari’s characters. Vedang, we presume, plays Shah’s character’s younger version. The promo promises an emotional story set against the backdrop of the Partition of India.
“This film has a big heart. It has a large canvas yet is very personal. It is a story of a boy and a girl, but also a country,” Ali had earlier said in a statement.

Written by Ali and Nayanika Mahtani, Main Vaapas Aaunga has cinematography by Sylvester Fonseca and editing by Aarti Bajaj.
Notably, the film will reunite the legendary trio of Ali, AR Rahman, and Irshad Kamil, who have given some of their most memorable soundtracks in films like Amar Singh Chamkila, Tamasha, and Rockstar, among others.
Main Vaapas Aaunga is produced by Applause Entertainment, Window Seat Films and Ali’s frequent collaborator Mohit Choudhary.
