Indian and Japanese governments support research partnerships, academic collaborations in various fields: Consul-General

The year 2025 is being celebrated as the India-Japan Year of Science, Technology and Innovation Exchange, marking 40 years of collaboration in these fields, Takahashi Muneo, Consul-General, Consulate-General of Japan, Chennai said here on Monday.

While speaking at an event organised by the Japanese language school of Indo Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IJCCI), he said, both governments are actively supporting research partnerships and academic collaborations between universities, encouraging joint projects in areas such as clean energy, robotics, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, biotechnology, and space exploration. 

He said, the leaders of both countries have adopted an important action plan for India-Japan Human Resource Exchange and Cooperation, which outlines a roadmap for talent mobility and deeper people-to-people ties. 

“This plan envisions the exchange of more than 5,00,000 personnel over the next five years, including 50,000 skilled professionals and potential talents from India to Japan,” he added. 

N. Ravi, director, Kasturi and Sons Limited, said, one of the significant outcomes of Mr Modi’s visit to Japan was Japan’s intent to invest 10 trillion yen or around Rs 60,000 crores in India over the next decade, marking a doubling of the previous commitment of 5 trillion yen. “In Tokyo, it was also announced that the Indian Space Research Organization and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency will work closely on the upcoming Chandrayaan-5 mission,” he added. 

The Japanese language school of IJCCI held intercollegiate competitions in which 15 colleges participated and the prizes were given to students. 

The list of winners in poetry competition are K. Richie Rex (1st place), V. Durgasri (2nd place) and G. Rakshaya (3rd place). For the poster competition, the winners are Agnes S. Shirlyn (1st place), M.J. Jeffy Angel (2nd place) and K. Hasina (3rd place). 

In the speech competition, the winners are: S. Vaishali (1st place) S. Kirithika (2nd place) and S. Dharani (3rd place). 

The winners of the essay competition are: V.K. Syed Mohammed Buhari (1st place), S. Tharuna (2nd place) and C. Dhansree (3rd place). 

S Padmanabhan, president of IJCCI and R Suguna, secretary general of IJCCI were among those who spoke at the event.
