India is seen as a global power today in artificial intelligence (AI) primarily on the strength of its human resources, and cohorts of students who are ready for the digitally diverse workplace would show the way ahead, S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), said on Wednesday.
In his virtual address at the seventh convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Information Technology – Tiruchi (IIIT-T), Mr. Krishnan encouraged students to seek out opportunities in AI and semiconductor development, as these fields would dictate the growth of the global and national economy of the future.
“Through the establishment of global capability centres and engineering research and development centres, India has become the back-office to the world in many technological areas. That is where the role of institutes like IIIT becomes important. The future clearly rests in the hands of those who of you who endeavour to make good in this technological world,” Mr. Krishnan said.
A total of 82 students covering undergraduates, postgraduates and PhD received their degrees during the October 1 ceremony at IIIT-T.
Usha Natesan, director in-charge, presented the annual report. Anil Kumble, chairman, IIIT-T board of governors, presided over the function virtually.
