The Puducherry Police Department has placed under suspension Inspector of Police B. C. Kirtty as part of disciplinary proceedings initiated against the officer for professional misconduct.
An order issued by the Deputy Inspector General of Police R. Sathiyasundaram said the officer would remain under the disciplinary control of Commandant of the Puducherry Armed Police during the suspension period. The officer cannot leave Puducherry without the permission of the Director-General of Police, the order stated.
According to a police source, the disciplinary action was initiated following certain revelation by Nishad Ahmed, one of the accused persons in a financial fraud case, investigated by the Puducherry Police and Enforcement Directorate (ED). The case, which was first investigated by the Puducherry Police, was later taken over by the ED.
The accused had confessed to the Crime and Intelligence Wing of the Puducherry Police and ED of payment of bribe to several persons, including Mr. Kirtty, who was then part of the Cyber Crime Wing of the UT Police, the source said.
