A sub-engineer with the Telangana Power department was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday (December 9) after he was trapped while accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 from a resident in Veldanda mandal.
The accused officer, identified as Yeddula Venkateshwarlu, posted at the Kalwakurthy sub-division and in charge of the Veldanda section in the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL) had allegedly demanded ₹20,000 to complete paperwork for installing a transformer at the complainant’s house and for issuing a power meter in his name.
Officials said he accepted ₹15,000 as part payment when they apprehended him at the complainant’s residence in Chokkannapally village. The tainted cash was recovered from his possession. Venkateshwarlu was subsequently arrested and produced before the special court for ACB cases in Hyderabad.
Further investigation is under way. The bureau said it withheld the complainant’s identity for security reasons.
