Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Friday ordered amendments to relax the age limit for the recruitment of Police Sub-Inspectors and Constables.
In a high-level meeting, Mr. Parameshwara directed the department to amend the cadre and recruitment rules, raising the maximum age limit for Sub-Inspector posts to 32 years for candidates from SC/ST and backward classes and 30 years for general category candidates. For Police Constable posts, the age limit will now be 30 years for SC/ST and backward class candidates and 27 years for general category candidates.
Previously, under the cadre and recruitment rules, the upper age limit for Sub-Inspectors was 30 years for SC/ST and backward class candidates and 28 years for general category candidates. For Constables, it was 27 years and 25 years respectively.
Mr. Parameshwara told The Hindu that relaxing the age limit for police recruitment had been a long-standing demand.
“After detailed discussions with senior officials of the Police Department, I have ordered these amendments. This will open up opportunities for thousands of job aspirants,” he said, adding that he has also directed the department to expedite the filling of vacant posts.
