The 57th anniversary of the Keezhvenmani massacre, in which 44 Dalits, including children, women, and men were burnt to death during an agrarian wage struggle in 1968, was observed here on Thursday.
Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India, and other parties and farmers organisations paid their respects and offered floral tributes at the memorial at Keezhvenmani.
In the wage struggle, the labourers were burnt alive inside a hut in which they took refuge on December 25, 1968.
CPI(M) State Secretary P. Shanmugam, senior leaders K. Balakrishnan and U.Vasuki, MP V. Selvaraj, and MLA Nagai Mali paid their respects.
