Senior actor-director Lal on Tuesday (December 9, 2025) said he hoped that the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court will award maximum punishment to the six persons found guilty in the sensational Kerala actor rape case.
“I welcome the verdict as the court has found that they are guilty,” said Mr. Lal, while pointing out that he was not fully aware of the conspiracy angle in the abduction and sexual assault of the woman actor in a moving car near Kochi on February 17, 2017.
After the brutal assault, she was dropped off at Mr. Lal’s residence by Martin Antony, the second accused, who was her driver on the night.
Mr. Lal said it was him and not the late Congress MLA P. T Thomas, who had first informed then State Police chief Loknath Behra about her ordeal. “Mr. Thomas had told me to take Martin to the hospital as he was found in an injured condition. But I asked him to wait as I had some doubts about his role. He was taken into custody after I had shared this doubt with a senior police official, he said.
Mr. Lal said he and his family “had always shared everything they knew” about the case with the investigating officials and the court.
On the acquittal of actor Dileep, Mr. Lal said he was “not competent enough to say whether it was right or wrong” as he was yet to read the full verdict.
