A day after her passing, Bangladesh bids farewell on Wednesday (December 31, 2025) to Khaleda Zia, the country’s first female Prime Minister and chief of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), with a state funeral post 2 p.m. A large deployment of security forces is expected across capital city of Dhaka amid the three-day national mourning.

Zia, aged 80, died on Tuesday (December 30) following prolonged illness. Her body will be interred alongside her late husband, Ziaur Rahman, who was assassinated in 1981 during his time as President.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will visit Dhaka to represent India at the funeral on Wednesday (December 31). It is not immediately known whether Jaishankar will hold a separate bilateral meeting with interim government chief Muhammad Yunus.
