The Lokayukta police on Wednesday booked an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) with Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) and two private individuals, for illegally selling a KHB site for ₹10 crore in Yelahanka New Town, causing a loss to the exchequer.
The accused Syed Asghar, AEE with KHB (Yelahanka New Town) was arrested along with Govindaiah and Harini Satish from T. Dasarahalli, charging them under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and also under section 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant), 420 (cheating), and 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) of Indian Penal Code.
According to the Lokayukta police, Asghar sold KHB site 271 ‘A’ Sector site measuring 50.5 x 80 ft to Govindaiah and Harini, causing wrongful loss to the government. The suspects have been issued notices to appear for an inquiry, a senior officer said. The role of a fourth suspect is yet to be established.
On Wednesday, Lokayukta police launched raids at the KHB’s Yelahanka New Town office and the residences of Asghar and Govindaiah. Officials said that the searches yielded documents and their photocopies related to the site.
