More than two hours after he was kidnapped by unknown persons near his house at Gudiyatham town in Vellore in a car, a four-year-old boy was rescued by police at Devikapuram village near Ambur town in Tirupattur on Wednesday. One suspect has been arrested.
Police said that the arrested person has been identified as S. Balaji, while his accomplice Vicky fled the spot when a police team rounded up the duo in Krishnagiri. The victim, V. Yogesh, is the son of K. Venu, a software professional, and V. Janani. The family has been living in Santhapettai area within Gudiyatham town. Yogesh was enrolled in a local private school to attend pre-LKG classes.
As a routine, Venu, who works from home, drops and picks up his son from school every day. Accordingly, Venu and his son Yogesh were returning home on Wednesday. Venu parked his two-wheeler in front of the house to open the main gate when a man, wearing a helmet, followed him and sprayed chilli powder and kidnapped the child in a car.
A video grab of CCTV footage showed an unidentified masked man stepping out of a white car with a Karnataka registration number, which was found to be fake, and walking towards the two-wheeler before he grabbed the child from his father, who was seen running after the car and clinging to its door before falling off. The incident happened around 12.20 p.m.
Immediately, neighbours and relatives rushed to the spot. Based on the alert, Gudiyatham Town police inspected the spot. A packet of chilli powder was recovered at the scene, and traces of the powder was visible on the father’s clothes.
Police also analysed the CCTV footage on the route. Superintendent of Police (SP) A. Myilvagaran formed six special teams to rescue the boy. All border check-posts had been alerted, and the teams were deployed to track the movements of cars.
Police said that one of the police rescue teams found the kidnapped boy near a marriage hall at Devikapuram village that comes under Madhanur panchayat union near Ambur town around 2.45 p.m. after a few pedestrians alerted Pallikonda Town police about the boy.
