The Kochi Corporation is progressing with the same development and welfare-oriented vision as the State government, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said. A mere glance at the projects implemented in Kochi is enough to recognise this. Mr. Vijayan was speaking after inaugurating the Kochi Corporation’s new headquarters at Marine Drive on Tuesday (October 21, 2025).

The Corporation has implemented a series of model development initiatives, including Samridhi, She Lodge, Mahakavi G Memorial, modernisation of Ernakulam market, upgrading public spaces across the city, Thuruthy twin apartment complex, rehabilitation of P&T Colony residents, and addressing waterlogging through Operation Breakthrough, he said.
Mr. Vijayan said that a focused approach to the garbage issue at Brahmapuram had yielded positive results. The construction of the compressed biogas plant is in its final stages, and the progress in biomining has drawn national attention. He credited the Corporation’s efficient functioning for these achievements.

The State government is undertaking several projects aimed at the comprehensive development of Kochi. They include the expansion of the Kochi metro, development of the Kochi Airport, Water Metro, Petrochemical Park, and Infopark. Mr. Vijayan also highlighted the government’s significant strides in welfare initiatives.
Kerala is advancing with the motto of extending welfare schemes to all eligible citizens and ensuring the benefits of development reach everyone. Under the LIFE Mission project, nearly 40,000 people have been provided housing, and around 14,000 have received land. On November 1, Kerala is set to achieve a rare milestone on being declared free of extreme poverty that will present the State as a model to the world. While many can take pride in this achievement, local bodies played a crucial role in making it possible.
Local bodies did commendable work in identifying extremely poor individuals within their jurisdictions and helping them overcome poverty. Mr. Vijayan urged them to continue with such valuable work.
Mayor M. Anilkumar presided over the function. Industries Minister P. Rajeeve was the chief guest. Former Mayor Dinesh Mani was felicitated for making available land for the new headquarters.
Hibi Eden, MP; MLAs T.J. Vinod, K.J. Maxy, Uma Thomas, and K. Babu, along with Greater Cochin Development Authority Chairperson K. Chandran Pillai, were among those present.
