The Kumaragiri Lake Park, located in the Ammapettai zone, was inaugurated on Wednesday (January 14, 2026) by Minister for Tourism R. Rajendran.
The park has been developed under the State government’s initiative to protect and rejuvenate water bodies.
Spread over about 40 acres, the lake has been renovated with strengthened bunds, walking tracks, protective fencing and landscaping. Facilities such as seating benches, green lawns, children’s play equipment, lighting, drinking water, toilets, a canteen and boating facilities have been provided for the public.
Works worth ₹1 crore were taken up for the construction of compound walls, entry gates and the installation of CCTV cameras. Stormwater drains were constructed at a cost of ₹14 crore to prevent sewage from entering the lake. Paver block pathways were laid under the Smart Cities Mission.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said the State government was implementing several welfare and development schemes and allocating substantial funds for infrastructure development in Salem district.
