Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena has approved the dismissal of an Assistant Section Officer at the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for alleged involvement in a land allotment “scam” in Safdarjung Enclave, south Delhi, in 2020, according to a release issued on Tuesday.
This is the third dismissal in the same case, which dates back nearly four decades, when the Land and Building Department of the Delhi government had first recommended a probe to the DDA.
“In yet another indication that corruption will not be tolerated and a strong signal to erring DDA employees, the Delhi L-G has imposed a penalty of dismissal. He has also asked DDA to relook and review the punishment given to another employee in the matter,” the statement read.
The official, along with colleagues, allegedly allotted land worth crores of rupees using forged documents, in connivance with the beneficiary. The case involved the processing of a land recommendation letter from 1979, which was suddenly acted upon in 2020.
The inquiry found that the “employee failed to examine the case diligently, ignored discrepancies in signatures, did not verify the allottee in person, and bypassed standard procedures such as cross-checking documents and obtaining clearances.”
The release stated that the employee overlooked the fact that the Land and Building Department had flagged 128 fraudulent recommendation cases, including 38 instances where the original files were missing.
In this instance, letters from 2020 confirming the 1979 recommendation were accepted without scrutiny, leading to wrongful possession of prime land, the release added.
