LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Venetian Resort has settled a lawsuit, paying $850,000 dollars to certain employees, according to federal officials.
The lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) says the resort broke federal law by not accommodating religious beliefs of some employees.
The EEOC claimed the Venetian Resort not only failed to accommodate religious beliefs of some employees but those individuals were also retaliated against. According to the EEOC the suit argued employees were faced with disciplinary action, denied promotional opportunities, and let go from their position.
In addition to the settlement the hotel and casino resort will be required to implement policy changes through a three-year consent decree agreement. Policy changes include employee training on rights and employers’ obligations regarding religious obligations.
FOX5 has reached out to the Venetian for a statement but have not heard back tonight.
