Taking into account the widespread disruption caused by the State-wide bandh called by the OBC Joint Action Committee (JAC), Prohibition and Excise Commissioner C. Harikiran announced that the deadline for submitting liquor shop applications has been extended till October 23.
The draw of lots, which was originally scheduled for October 23, has been postponed, and District Collectors will now conduct the draw on October 27.
The bandh, called by the OBC JAC to demand enhanced reservation for Backward Classes, brought life to a near standstill across Telangana on Saturday. Supported by major political parties and social organisations, the shutdown disrupted public transport and banking operations.
City buses remained off the roads through the day, while several banks and offices were closed. The bandh also hit those who had planned to submit liquor shop applications, as Saturday was the original final day for submissions. Officials said a large number of applicants were unable to complete the process because of the shutdown.
