The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) here on Sunday announced that a low-pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal around October 21. 

It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further into a depression over central parts of south Bay of Bengal and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 48 hours. Under its influence, enhanced rainfall activity is likely over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry between October 22 and 24.

B. Amudha, Head (additional in-charge), RMC on Sunday said that four weather systems along with a vigorous northeast monsoon were bringing widespread rainfall over the State and Puducherry.

With squally weather likely to prevail along and off south Tamil Nadu coast, over Gulf of Mannar, and Comorin area with wind speeds reaching 35 kmph to 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph till Tuesday, fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas. Those who are at sea should return by October 21, she added.

For Monday, light to moderate rain has been forecast at many places with thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places in Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Chengalpattu districts and Puducherry and Karaikal area.
