LPG shortage crisis: Deans of govt. medical college hospitals in Tamil Nadu directed to hold meetings on patient diet services

The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) and Research has directed the deans of all government medical college hospitals to convene a meeting with the administrative teams of the hospitals and colleges to ensure that diet services for patients, outsourced catering services, and the supply of food for students in hostels and for attenders in canteens are not affected in the light of the LPG cylinders shortage being reported.

In an official communication, DME R. Suganthy Rajakumari asked the deans to work out alternative strategies and explore ways to ensure that patients, students, and attendants are not inconvenienced.

The directorate also put forward some examples of alternative arrangements, including use of wooden logs, electric stoves or oven in place of LPG (whenever shortages occur), cooking food elsewhere and transporting it to the facilities, modifying diet choices to items that require minimal cooking, such as use of flattened rice, bread, fruits, banana salads, and oats.
