Popular chef-cum-actor ‘Madhampatty’ T. Rangaraj has filed a civil suit before the Madras High Court to restrain costume designer Joy Crizildaa from making false, malicious and defamatory statements against him in any form of media since they disparage his personality rights.

Appearing before Justice N. Senthilkumar on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), senior counsel Srinath Sridevan said the new suit filed by Mr. Rangaraj in his personal capacity, apart from the one already filed by his catering company, had already been numbered but yet to be listed before the court for hearing.

In the suit, filed through his counsel on record Vijayan Subramanian, Mr. Rangaraj had sought to restrain Ms. Crizildaa, who claims to have married him, from making, writing, printing, publishing, broadcasting, distributing, posting, circulating or disseminating defamatory content against him.

He insisted that she should be restrained from posting videos, reels, photographs, captions or any other kind of audio visual content which could directly or indirectly defame his character, personal life, professional standing and reputation in the hospitality as well as entertainment industry.

The plaintiff had also filed an application, along with the main suit, seeking an interim direction to Ms. Crizildaa to remove/delete the defamatory content posted against him in her Instagram profile on July 26, July 30, August 19 and August 30, 2025 and to detag his name and handles from all her social media posts.

Stating that he would hear the suit as and when it gets listed, Justice Senthilkumar on Wednesday (September 24, 2025) reserved his orders on an application filed by Madhampatty Thangavelu Hospitality Private Limited to restrain Ms. Crizildaa from disparaging the “goodwill and reputation” of the unregistered trademark ‘Madhampatty Pakashala.’

The orders were reserved after hearing senior counsel P.S. Raman and S. Prabakaran for the catering company and the costume designer respectively. The company filed an affidavit stating that it had suffered a loss of more than ₹12 crore because of the Madhamapatty hashtag used by her in disparaging social media posts.

When the judge wanted to know how the company could claim to have lost contracts worth ₹12 crore only because of the hashtags used by the costume designer, Mr. Raman said, there was no other reason. He said, all those clients had cancelled their contracts only after her social media posts.

However, Mr. Prabakaran challenged the company to prove that the contracts were cancelled only because of his client. “I am fighting for justice and for the unborn child in my womb. I have lodged a criminal complaint against Mr. Rangaraj. This suit has been filed only to give a commercial colour to the criminal case,” he said.
