Madras High Court judge visits Mayiladuthurai courts

The annual inspection of courts in Mayiladuthurai was conducted over the weekend by L.C. Victoria Gowri, judge, Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court and Portfolio Judge for the district. This marked the first such inspection of the trial courts since the district was bifurcated and new courts were constituted.

Justice Gowri verified the electronic filing section and kiosk board displaying case listings, and reviewed all records maintained by the courts. Instructions were issued to judicial staff on keeping the records updated and preservation of permanent records.

The Mayuram Bar Association formally welcomed Justice Gowri and Madras High Court Judge Justice S. Sounthar of the Madras High Court, who hails from Mayiladuthurai. Bar president Murugavelu presided over the event. District Judge L.S. Sathiyamurthy underlined the Bar’s role in strengthening the Bench.

Justice Gowri interacted with women staff members, stressing strict adherence to the Vishaka Committee guidelines on workplace safety and sensitisation.

A review meeting with the District Collector, the Superintendent of Police, the District Revenue Officer, the Revenue Divisional Officer, and the Public Works Department officials was held to discuss infrastructure needs for creating a more conducive court environment.

She urged speedy disposal of long-pending criminal cases and execution of warrants at a review with police and prosecutors. Committees with nodal officers were formed to monitor progress.

Ms. Gowri inspected courts in Sirkazhi and Tiruchampalli issuing directions on record maintenance and disposal of case properties. Justice Gowri inaugurated a Lok Adalat, ordering compensation to road accident victims and in cases settled through conciliation.
