The Mangaluru City police have detained Malayalam actor Jayakrishnan and another person for an alleged racial slur against a taxi driver in the city.
In a complaint to the Urwa police station, Mohammed Sharief said his taxi was booked by Jayakrishnan, Santosh Abraham, and Vimal using Uber and Rapido Captain apps on the night of October 9. Bejai New Road was mentioned as the pick-up address.
Mr. Sharief used the app to call the customers to know the pick-up place. They spoke in turns to allegedly abuse Mr. Sharief. They further made vulgar comments against his mother in Malayalam, Mr. Sharief alleged. Along with the complaint, Mr. Sharief handed over audio clips of the conversation to the police.
The police registered the complaint for offences under Sections 352 and 353 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The police were questioning Jayakrishnan and Santosh Abraham.
