The Vadakkekara police arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly stabbing a candidate in the local body polls to Chendamangalam grama panchayat on Friday (November 28).
Manoj Valsan of Muravanthuruth, Vadakkekara, was arrested on charge of stabbing Fazal Rahman, 51, who is contesting as an Independent in Ward 10 of the panchayat. The police suspect personal enmity to be the reason behind the incident.
Mr. Rahman, a former ward member, was ousted from the CPI(M) after he decided to contest against the party’s decision. The alleged incident took place at the Chendamangalam panchayat office following an argument between Mr. Rahman and Mr. Manoj. Mr. Rahman suffered an injury to his left shoulder in the attack.
Mr. Manoj was arrested from a private hospital where he had sought treatment following the incident.
