Tiruvottriyur police arrested a 27-year-old man for cheating a car rental owner by pledging a vehicle he had hired.
According to the police, Gautham, 40, of Kaladipet, had rented out an SUV to Hariharan, 27, of Tirunelveli on April 20 for six days. When he did not return the vehicle, Gautham tracked it down to Vellore through GPS.
Investigations revealed that Hariharan had pledged the car with another person for ₹5 lakh.
Gautham also received threatening calls from unidentified persons warning him not to pursue the matter.
Following his complaint, the police arrested Hariharan, and remanded him in judicial custody.
