A man has been fined ₹10,000 by the Forest Department for feeding wild monkeys along the roadside near the S-bend area of Varattupallam Dam beat in Anthiyur forest range here on Thursday (October 23, 2025).
According to Forest Department officials, a video showing the man feeding monkeys was uploaded on YouTube and subsequently circulated on social media. Following this, the department initiated an investigation to identify the individual. The person was identified as R. Jayachandran of Thammangkaradu in Anthiyur. During inquiry, he admitted to having fed the monkeys, which is considered an offence under wildlife protection regulations. Based on the direction of the District Forest Officer, Erode Forest Division, a fine of ₹10,000 was imposed on him.
Officials also issued a warning and awareness advice, urging him not to repeat such actions in the future.
