Man held in ATM theft attempt cases in Erode


A 39-year-old man who attempted to break open two ATM machines on the night of January 12, 2026 was arrested by the district police here on Sunday (January 25) night.

According to the police, an unidentified person attempted to break open ATM machines belonging to Karnataka Bank at Periyar Nagar on EVN Road under the Erode Town Police Station limits, and State Bank of India near the Jothi Theatre bridge area under the Erode South Police Station limits. Based on complaints lodged by bank officials, cases were registered and an investigation was launched. Police examined CCTV footage from the ATM centres and analysed mobile phone tower data, which led to the identification of the suspect.

The accused was identified as K. Pritham Sarki, 39, a native of West Bengal. A special police team, led by the Inspector of Police, Erode Town Crime Branch, arrested the accused. Following interrogation, he was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
