Man injured in shooting at Pocharam, BJP leaders condemn attack


A man sustained injuries after being shot by an assailant at Yamnampet on Monday night. The Pocharam IT Corridor police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

According to an officer close to the investigation, a man identified as Ibrahim allegedly opened fire on Sonu Singh, who reportedly works as a representative for a cowshed management team. The bullet struck the right side of Singh’s chest and abdomen, causing severe bleeding. Soon after he sustained a bullet injury, he was shifted to a nearby hospital. Later, the severely injured Sonu Singh was rushed to emergency department of Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad.

Yashoda Hospital sources said that a CT scan was done and he is expected to be operated upon shortly to remove the bullet from his body. “The injured is stable as of now and will be operated upon shortly,” sources pointed out. Police said Sonu Singh had arrived at Yamnampet in a car along with Ibrahim, Srinivas Yadav, and a few others. The group had reportedly met earlier at Shamshabad before travelling together to Yamnampet. The reason behind the firing is yet to be established.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu visited the scene and reviewed the situation. A search operation has been launched to trace the accused, who fled after the attack. Preliminary information suggests that the shooting took place near a hotel in Yamnampet. Police said details about Singh’s condition are awaited, though reports indicate that he remains critical.

Hearing about the firing, BJP State chief N. Ramchander Rao, Malkajgiri MP Etela Rajender and other BJP leaders rushed to Yashoda Hospital. The leaders spoke to the doctors to know the condition of the injured person. Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy and Mr. Ramchander Rao condemned the firing against a person when he tried to obstruct cows being illegally transported at Ghatkesar on Wednesday evening.

Mr. Rao demanded that the government deal sternly with those breaking the law. The party will bear the expenses of the treatment, he said. Mr. Kishan Reddy too expressed his anguish and is on his way to the hospital to check upon the injured person.
