An Assistant in the Tasmac godown who was sentenced to one year jail in 1999 and went absconding in 2019 after the Supreme Court upheld the trial court’s verdict, was nabbed by the police on Tuesday.
According to a statement from Virudhunagar dsitrict unit of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, the accused K.G. Premkumar, was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe money of ₹150 for issuing reciept for having stocked liquor bottles in the godown in 1998.
After the High Court upheld the one-year jail awarded by the trial court, Premkumar appealed before the Supreme Court.
The Apex Court in 2019 dismissed his appeal and he went absconding since then. The police found in living in Villapuram and arrested him. He was sent to judicial custody.
