The Villivakkam police are on the lookout for a person who reportedly stole a gold chain from a 56-year-old woman who asked for a lift on his two-wheeler on Wednesday (November 19, 2025).
A senior official of the city police said Vasanthi, a resident of North Mada street, works as a lab technician at a private hospital in Thirumangalam. She was waiting at the Senthil Nagar bus stand to reach her workplace. As the bus was delayed, she requested a young man who was passing by on his two-wheeler for a lift.
He agreed, and when they approached the Padi flyover, the youth stopped the vehicle and asked Vasanthi to get down, claiming one of the tyres had got punctured. When she got down, the man, using a blade, cut the gold chain around her neck and fled the scene on the bike.
Based on a complaint filed by Vasanthi, the Villivakkam police registered a case. They are analysing CCTV footage to identify the youth.
