Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday (October 7, 2025) chaired a high-level meeting regarding the arrival of the Argentine football team for an international friendly match at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi, Ernakulam, in November. Argentine football stars, including Lionel Messi, will likely take to the field for the match.
The meeting laid out a roadmap for refurbishing the stadium to international standards. It also focused on parking, security arrangements, traffic management, crowd control, electrical safety, drinking water supply and waste disposal measures.

The meeting tasked a senior civil servant to coordinate various departments.
A panel chaired by the Chief Secretary will ensure compliance with the master plan for the event. The District Collector, Ernakulam, will supervise the preparations and report in real time to the Chief Secretary’s committee.
Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman, Minister for Local Self-Governments M. B. Rajesh, Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak, and State Police Chief Ravada Chandrasekhar attended the meeting.
