Michigan QB Bryce Underwood Shares Plans Amid Sherrone Moore Scandal

University of Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood has announced his commitment for next season in the aftermath of former head coach Sherrone Moore’s termination and arrest.

“Runnit Back,” Underwood, 18, posted ‘ on Monday, January 5, revealing his intention to return to Michigan for his sophomore season.

Underwood’s decision comes after the university named Kyle Whittingham as the new head football coach on December 26.

“Very excited to figure out what kind of guy he is,” Underwood said shortly after Whittingham, 66, was hired. “I don’t really know too much about him. I’m just excited to figure out what kind of guy he is.”

New allegations have been made about former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore’s “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member, which led to his termination and arrest. A report published by the Detroit Free Press on Tuesday, December 23, spoke to more than a half dozen people — including “former staffers, high-ranking university officials, […]

Whittingham, the former head coach at the University of Utah, immediately said it was a priority for Michigan to retain star players instead of having them enter the transfer portal.

ESPN’s Booger McFarland said Michigan fans should be excited about the magic Whittingham and Underwood might be able to create together.

“Think about this. When he chose his quarterback at Utah, he chose Devon Dampier — dual-threat quarterback,” McFarland said on December 27. “He’s got a better version of that in Michigan with Bryce Underwood. Now, he’s got to work to keep him because we all know the transfer portal is going to open up in a week or so. If he can keep Bryce Underwood there in Michigan, the fact he’s bringing that style of offense with this quarterback, I think it’s a perfect fit if you’re Michigan.”

There was concern that Underwood, a prized recruit out of high school, might leave the school after Moore, 39, was fired on December 10.

Moore was found to be involved in an “inappropriate relationship” with a female member of the University of Michigan football staff, which led to his termination.

Just hours after being fired, Moore allegedly broke into the apartment of the staff member and threatened to harm her and himself.

Moore was arrested and charged with one count of third-degree felony home invasion, one count misdemeanor stalking related to a domestic relationship and one count misdemeanor breaking and entering.

He was released on $25,000 bond and ordered to wear a GPS tracking monitor, in addition to dropping all contact with the staff member.

Moore is due back in court on January 22.

University of Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel spoke publicly for the first time since the firing of football head coach Sherrone Moore, who was terminated earlier this month over an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member. “There’s not much I can say,” Manuel, 57, told reporters on Sunday, December 28. “There’s an investigation continuing into […]

During an appearance on FS1’s Wake Up Barstool on Monday, shortly before Underwood officially announced his return, Whittingham discussed the quarterback’s importance to the team moving forward.

“He has enjoyed his time here, and he is one of the team leaders,” Whittingham said. “He’s a young guy, but he’s one of the team leaders, obviously by virtue of the position. And so he is a guy that we think is going to be a part of what we’re doing going forward.”

Underwood’s commitment for next season is huge, especially given the fact that Michigan has seen three backup quarterbacks enter the transfer portal.

Mikey Keene entered the portal on Monday, following in the footsteps of Davis Warren and Jaydn Davis, who both made their intentions known last month.
