MoES Secretary to speak at `Prof. Koteswaram Memorial Lecture’ on February 17


The Indian Meteorological Society (IMS), Visakhapatnam Chapter, in collaboration with Andhra University, is set to host the Padmabhushan Prof. P. Koteswaram Memorial Lecture in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday (February 17).

The lecture will be delivered by M. Ravichandran, the Secretary to the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and will cover critical advancements in weather forecasting, climate resilience, and India’s growing “Blue Economy” vision.

The event is scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. at the YVS Auditorium within the AU College of Engineering.

M. Ravichandran is a distinguished physicist and oceanographer, and known for his extensive work in atmospheric physics and ocean dynamics. As the Secretary to the MoES, he leads India’s flagship initiatives, including the Deep Ocean Mission and Mission Mausam.

The lecture series commemorates Prof. P. Koteswaram, a former Director-General of Observatories and a pioneer in tropical meteorology. He was instrumental in developing modern theories on the origin of the Indian monsoon and was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1975.

AU Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.P. Rajasekhar will grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
