Theni MP Thanga Tamilselvan released water for irrigation for single crop cultivation from the PTR Canal (P.T. Rajan), which would benefit over 10,000 acres of land in Uthamapalayam, Bodinayakkanur, Chinnamanur and Theni.
Releasing the water in Theni on Wednesday (October 1, 2025) in the presence of District Revenue Officer I Mahalakshmi, Executive Engineers Saravanan and Sivaprabhakaran, Uthamapalayam RDO Syed Mohamed and a large number of farmers and office-bearers of farmers’ associations, the MP said that following the requests from the farmers, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had ordered the release of water.
He appealed to the farmers’ to make judicious use of the water and reap high yields. Timely release of water would help the paddy farmers’ to ensure that the plants did not wither, while he also urged them to save them in such a way that it lasted for the entire 100 to 120 days till the harvest period.
Officials said that 2,045.36 acres of land in Uthamapalayam, 2,568 acres in Bodinayakkanur, 830 acres in Chinnamanur and 5,146 acres of land in Theni would benefit from the water release for the next 30 days, the canal would discharge 98 cusecs of water and depending on the inflow and availability, it would be provided periodically.
