MP urges Union Finance Minister to reduce GST on paper

Member of Parliament D. Ravikumar on Thursday urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to reduce the Goods and Services Taxes (GST) on paper and paper-based products, which was recently increased from 12% to 18%.

In a letter to the Union Minister, he said, “This revision has significantly affected the education sector, small-scale stationery manufacturers, and printing and newspaper industries.”

Pointing to the importance of paper in promoting education and supporting micro and small industries, he said, “I urge the Ministry to review the GST rate on paper and consider bringing it to the lower slab to ensure affordability and sustainability in this vital sector.”
