The Delhi Police has prepared a comprehensive winter safety plan in a bid to protect over 6,000 traffic personnel in the Capital from the adverse effects of worsening air quality and distributed N95 masks along with other winter gear to them, an official said on Monday.
The initiative comes amid the city’s air quality dipping to the “severe” category.
The initiative also includes regular health check-ups to safeguard the personnel deployed for long hours on city roads, a senior Delhi Traffic Police officer said.
“They [traffic personnel] are more susceptible to health risks as they stand for hours to maintain traffic,” he said.
Keeping in mind the rising health issues of the traffic police, the Delhi police has decided to strengthen the protective measures for them.
Cops to don fluorescent jackets
Meanwhile, to address safety concerns due to poor visibility, jackets featuring reflective fluorescent stickers have been issued to the traffic personnel to ensure that they remain clearly visible to commuters while regulating traffic.
“Reflective fluorescent stickers are being pasted on Delhi Police barricades to enhance their visibility during night and foggy conditions. Commuters have been advised to switch on their fog lights at night to reduce the risk of accidents,” the officer said.
Another officer has stated that additional measures, such as hydration support and rotational deployment during extreme weather, are also being implemented as part of the broader welfare plan.
