Smooth and effective implementation of Telangana police’s latest initiative that allows victims of select crimes to register First Information Report (FIR) at the scene of the incident or from their homes was discussed at an awareness meeting held at the Telangana State Integrated Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar warned that any negligence in implementing the policy will attract departmental action. He said officers would be held accountable if victims were asked to visit police stations without valid reasons, adding that each case would be monitored by officers at the ACP and DCP levels. He also emphasised that the process would be carried out while fully respecting the dignity and privacy of victims.
Addressing the meeting, Mr. Sajjanar said the approach would be particularly helpful in cases involving suicides, unnatural deaths, road accidents, thefts, robberies, vehicle thefts, crimes against women and children, and ragging.
He said police officers would reach the spot as soon as information is received and directly record the victim’s complaint. In cases where victims are hospitalised, officers will visit hospitals to collect details and register cases without delay.
“With this citizen-centric approach, victims will no longer be required to come to the police station. Instead, the police will go to them,” the Commissioner said.
Victims who face difficulties in getting complaints or FIRs registered under the new system have been advised to report the matter to the Hyderabad police through the official WhatsApp number 94906 16555.
The Commissioner said the initiative would complement ‘C-Mitra’, a recently launched service for cybercrime victims, and significantly enhance public access to police services.
